How it works
Ticks, points and dollars
Every futures contract moves in fixed steps called ticks. ES moves 0.25 index points at a time and each tick is worth $12.50, so a full point is worth $50.
Profit or loss = number of ticks × tick value × number of contracts, minus commissions. Micro contracts (MES, MNQ, MYM, M2K, MCL, MGC) are one tenth of the full-size contract.
Treasury and grain prices
Treasury futures are quoted in 32nds of a point: 112-16 means 112 and 16/32, or 112.5. Enter the decimal price here.
Grain futures are quoted in cents per bushel: 450.25 means $4.5025. One cent is worth $50 on a full-size contract.
What the result leaves out
Commissions and exchange fees are entered by you. Slippage, the difference between the price you wanted and the price you got, is not included and is often larger than the commission for short-term trades.

Are these specifications current?
They were checked on the date shown above. Exchanges rarely change tick sizes, but check the exchange's contract page before you trade a contract for the first time.
Test the idea on years of data, not one trade
AlphaPrime generates and backtests futures strategies on your GPU, with contract specs, trading costs and sessions built in, then exports the strategy code for your trading platform.
